BBR Graphics offers a wide range of re-engineered packaging equipment, and their highly trained engineers can help you choose the right equipment for your specific requirements. Choosing the right folder/gluer for your company can make a huge difference to your productivity levels, and can make the difference between struggling to keep up, and getting on top of your work load.
To choose the right folder/gluer for your needs, consider a few basics. Firstly, how well is the folder/gluer built. It should have a sturdy base, to cut vibration problems. Machines assembled with nuts and bolts should be stronger than those using angle irons or castings. Choose one with a low centre of gravity to reduce vibration and preserve the tightness of fixings.
Look for good safety features. Pinch points and belts should be properly guarded, and there should be an audible start-up warning. A two step start procedure is safer, and lock out E-stops for re-starts after a jam.
Check what type of products the folder/gluer will produce. Generally, you can expect as basic, a side seam, or ‘straight line’ carton. There may also be the capability for automatic, lock bottom cartons. For this function, you should expect at least 12 folding forms, and 6 finger assemblies. Good features to look for in your new folder/gluer include tooling to guide and hold the cartons, and a right hand lower glue pot is useful. An ideal belt speed is at least 400 metres per minute, although you may find some models with higher speeds.
If you intend to do cartons with your folder/gluer, you will need a backfolding system, for 4 and 6 corner cartons, and an electronic servometer to run the system. Consider not only what you need to do now, but what might be required of your folder/gluer in the future. Optional extras that can be added on later are useful.
Also, look at the service and support offered with the folder/gluer . You should expect a warranty, and operator training to be included.
